It is not every day you get to climb a peak as iconic as Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest freestanding mountain at 5,895m and the highest peak in Africa. The snow-capped peak of Africa is a dormant volcano and can be found inside the Kilimanjaro National Park of Tanzania. So, join us on this unforgettable journey where we’ll take you to the top to have an incredible time on this 6-day trek. The trek includes exposure to an all-new culture that trekkers would always cherish.

Approximately 25,000 people attempt to summit Mt. Kilimanjaro annually, about two-thirds are successful. Altitude-related problems are the most common reason climbers turn back. We partner with experienced guides and a well-organized crew who ensures that you as a climber deal well with acclimatization-related problems. We can’t pledge a 100% chance for you to summit, but your chances are rather high when you climb with us!

“Kilimanjaro Trek” -The name brings to mind a dormant volcano and paints pictures of terrific African terrain, rainforests, rocky highlands, and massive moors. It summons picturesque visions of zebras, giraffes, and elephants prancing free in the wild. The dates listed coincide with the Safari and Zanzibar trip, making for a great way to experience many of the wonders this area offers. This six-day hike allows for extra time to climb, take in amazing scenery, and require strong mental and physical endurance. Once summiting Uhuru Peak, nearly 20,000 feet in the air, the feeling of accomplishment can’t be put into words.

So, don’t hesitate to book your tickets to climb this iconic peak in Africa with us. You will have an incredible time. Email us with your preferred dates, and we’ll get back to you with availability and the next steps.

    Day 1 - Elevation: 5,400ft to 9,400ft, Distance: 11 km, Hiking Time: 5-7 hours

The drive from Moshi to the Mount Kilimanjaro National Park Gate takes about 50 minutes. The journey passes through the village of Machame, located on the lower slopes of the mountain. Leave the park gate and walk through the rain forest on a winding trail up a ridge. The trail can be muddy and slippery. Gaiters and trekking poles are a good idea here. Continue a short distance to Machame Camp.

    Day 2 - Elevation: 9,400ft to 12,500ft, Distance: 5 km, Hiking Time: 4-6 hours

After breakfast, leave the glades of the rain forest and continue on an ascending path, crossing a small valley along a steep rocky ridge, covered with heather, until the ridge ends. The route now turns west onto a river gorge. Time for rest, dinner, and overnight at the Shira campsite.

    Day 3 - Elevation: 12,500ft - 13,000ft, Distance: 10 km, Hiking Time: 6-8 hours

From the Shira Plateau, continue toward the peak of Kibo. Then, head Southeast toward the Lava Tower, called "Shark's Tooth." Shortly after the tower, come to the second junction up the Arrow Glacier at an altitude of 16,000ft. Continue down to the Barranco Hut at an altitude of 13,000ft. Rest, enjoy dinner, and overnight. Although you end the day at the same elevation as when you started, this day is very important for acclimatization and will help your body prepare for summit day.

    Day 4 - Elevation: 13,000ft to 15,000ft, Distance: 9km, Hiking Time: 8-10 hours

Today is a long hiking day. Stay strong! After breakfast, leave Barranco and continue on a steep ridge passing the Barranco Wall, to the Karanga Valley campsite. Then, leave Karanga and connect with the Mweka Trail, up to the Barafu Hut. At this point, you have completed the South Circuit, which offers views of the summit from many different angles including the peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo. Here we make camp, rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the summit day.

    Day 5 - Elevation: 15,300ft to 19,345ft (then down to 10,000ft) , Distance: 5 km ascent / 12 km descent , Hiking Time: 7-8 hours ascent / 4-6 hours descent

Today is tough, keep mind and body strong and you will accomplish summit. Very early in the morning (midnight to 2am), begin the trek to summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers through heavy screed towards Stella Point on the crater rim. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek. At Stella Point (18,600 ft), stop for a short rest and a magnificent sunrise. From Stella Point, you may encounter snow on the remaining 1-hour ascent to the summit. Once at Uhuru Peak, you have reached the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa! Faster hikers will see the sunrise from the summit. From the summit, descend down to the Mweka Hut camp site, stopping at Barafu for lunch. You will want gaiters and trekking poles for the loose gravel going down, also to make it easier on the knees. Mweka Camp is situated in the upper forest and mist or rain can be expected in the late afternoon. Enjoy the last dinner on the mountain and a well-earned sleep.

    Day 6 - Elevation: 10,000ft to 5400ft, Distance: 10 km, Hiking Time: 3-4 hours

After breakfast, continue the descent down to Mweka Park Gate to receive your summit certificates. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. Gaiters and trekking poles will help. Shorts and t-shirts will probably be plenty to wear (keep rain gear and warmer clothing handy). From the gate, continue another hour to Mweka Village. A vehicle will meet you at Mweka village to drive you back to hotel in Moshi. Enjoy a shower and bed.

Day 7 - You Did It!

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel as this portion of your travels conclude. Perhaps you're joining the Safari & Zanzibar Experience or departing on your own ways. Either way, you are sure to be leaving a stronger, more confident version of you with an incredible appreciation for the planet earth.
